How we support

At Believe, we believe every problem has a solution. But every problem we support people with needs to start with a healthy relationship with themselves, so we focus on that first. We work with individuals to develop self awareness, self compassion and emotional stability as the foundation for all other change. Through a trauma informed and person centred approach, we help people understand their own patterns, needs and strengths so they can build a healthier, more supportive relationship with themselves.

The SEA Theory of Change, showing how inputs and activities through the Self Esteem Approach lead to outputs, short term outcomes and long term impact, underpinned by Trauma Informed practice, Compassion and REAL Equality.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Self Esteem Approach™ (SEA™)?

SEA™ is a framework created by Joanne King that places self esteem, self worth and identity at the centre of support. Rather than focusing only on the problem or behaviour, it helps people build a healthier relationship with themselves so change becomes possible and sustainable.

Who is SEA™ for?

SEA™ is for anyone struggling with low self worth, life transitions, recovery, relationships or emotional wellbeing. It also supports teams working with people in vulnerable or complex circumstances across health, social care, criminal justice, education and the voluntary sector.

How is SEA™ delivered?

You can access SEA™ as a self led course you work through in your own time, or as a 12 to 16 week one to one therapeutic programme delivered by a specialist practitioner. Both routes are trauma informed and paced around you.

Do I need a diagnosis to access SEA™ support?

No. SEA™ is a strengths based, non clinical approach. You do not need a diagnosis or referral. If you feel your self esteem is holding you back, that is enough to start.

How is SEA™ different from traditional therapy?

SEA™ is not a single intervention. It is a flexible framework that combines self awareness, self compassion and practical tools with elements of CBT, DBT and person centred practice, always leading with self esteem as the foundation for change.
